Brief about Aviation Security Training Institute(ASTI), Chennai
An Aviation Security Training Institute under AAI was inaugurated by Sh. S. G. Panicker, RED-SR, in the presence of Sh. C. V. Deepak, APD, Chennai Airport, along with senior officials and other stakeholders on 05th February 2024. All training programs related to Civil Aviation Security under BCAS will now be conducted at the newly inaugurated Institute at Meenambakkam.
All civil aviation security training programs under BCAS are now conducted in advanced, digitalized facilities. Four air-conditioned classrooms with mega digital screens, a Dangerous Goods lab, IED lab, and SHA room enhance learning. The facility also includes air-conditioned dining and exam halls for a comfortable, efficient training environment.
AAI-CHQ vide their letter No. AAI/Misc-15/A-Sec/5061-5067, dated 03.10.2018, has accorded approval for establishment of five Aviation Security Training Institutes (ASTIs) in five regions (Delhi, Bhopal, Chennai, Kolkata & Guwahati) for imparting AVSEC Training Programmes to Airport Directors; CSOs; AAICLAS Security Screeners (Standalone XBIS/ILHBSS); APSU personnel; PSA security personnel; ASCOs of Auxiliary Service Providers; and any stakeholder of Civil Aviation requiring AvSec training.
Accordingly, the Regional Executive Director-SR has allocated 2nd floor of AAI Building located at Meenambakkam, Chennai, adjacent to AAI Residential Colony and a portion of nearby Annex Building (erstwhile Officers’ Institute Building) for establishment of ASTI, AAI, Chennai facilities. So, the facilities of ASTI are spread in two adjacent buildings.
